Wilson, the father of Sociobiology, … says, selfish individuals outcompete altruistic individuals, but groups of altruistic individuals outcompete groups of selfish individuals, and what we need is a new institution, new technology that helps not just the groups of altruistics outcompete, but groups of groups of altruistic groups outcompete.
So we have a lot of the smartest people and insane amounts of money now going into the attempt to build aligned artificial intelligence. I don't see anything similar in scale trying to build aligned collective intelligence. And to me, that is the core problem we now need to solve. How do we build aligned collective hybrid intelligence? And I think you can sort of see it in the sense that we sort of suck at coordinating.
